INTENDED LEARNERS
This educational activity is specifically designed for OR nurses, infection preventionists, vascular access, surgeons (residents, fellows, new surgeons), certified registered nurse anesthetists, anesthesiologists, physician associates/assistants, and nurse practitioners.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After participating in this activity, learners should be better able to:
- Recognize the health and economic impact of surgical site infections (SSIs)
- Associate the process for assessing patient populations at risk for surgical site compromise and identify risk reduction strategies
- Examine the evidence for skin and nasal antiseptics and explore the role of surgical drapes in supporting infection prevention in the surgical setting
- Explain warming protocols implemented to support an ERAS® bundle and summarize key metrics used to evaluate warming protocols
- Examine the role of closed incision negative pressure wound therapy for incision and surrounding soft tissue management to help reduce the risk of surgical site complications, hospital readmissions & post-op follow-up appointments
